Rich textures, fresh jungle prints and a yellow coat I have my eye on. My review of the AKJP AW16 show at SA Menswear Week.
When the AKJP AW16 show walked on Day 1 of SA Menswear Week, my initial reaction was *yawn*, I’ve saw this look before.
I felt that Adriaan Kuiters and Jody Paulsen, had simply spruced up the boxy layered formula which brought the crowd to its feet at SAFW last year. (Read my review here.) In fact, the front split cropped pants appeared to have come straight off the rails. *naughty, naughty*
Midway through the show the designers redeemed themselves beyond reproach. The fresh jungle prints, rich textures and bold appliqué solicited an ‘okay, that’s cool’, closely followed by a wow! I want that yellow tapestry coat. And the navy swing one. And that ice queen dress (if it’s lined cos it could itch like hell).
High energy formed a golden thread through a collection of bold mixes, world-class garment construction and a look which screams cool. Combined with the duo’s signature urban edge, this unisex collection warrants regular visits to their Kloof Street, Cape Town boutique.
Well done AKJP, you’ve managed to silence this critic into admiration. And that speaks volumes;)
love & light
