6-packs, the art of layering and a peacoat every man needs. My review of the Black Dog AW16 collection at SA Menswear Week.
Why have I not heard of Black Dog prior to their AW16 show at SA Menswear Week on Wednesday night? The fledgling Cape Town-based brand, under the creative direction Maxine Mauerberger and her production partner Dino Perotti (a hottie I might add), put a smile on my face. A big one.The runway show revealed a monochrome capsule collection of easy going knits, drawstring shorts, lightweight hoodies and cuffed pants, layered with a must-have denim shirt, longer length coats and gossamer knitted scarves. What had Duncan and I straighten our backs in appreciation was a peacoat tailored and styled to absolute perfection.
In a country which battles with decent CMT, here’s a locally produced brand which pays homage to garment construction. And Maxine and Dino’s clear understanding of the essentials of a modern yet edgy wardrobe has provided a capsule collection which every man will appreciate.
To all you gents out there who appreciate simple style, watch this label closely. I think we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of ’em.
Congratulations on a well-executed collection Black Dog, you have my attention. My stylist Duncan Papè and I would love to meet you at your Long Street store as promised.
Happy Sunday, everyone
love & light
