I have a naughty little secret. I did not see the Jason Porshe SA Menswear Week SS19 show. At the time, I was being interviewed on the black carpet by the very dapper Colin Schouw and Jimi Ojunlaja for Spice TV Africa. I’m bleak as his was one of my top three most anticipated shows on Friday night. Fortunately, the buzz created around this Nigerian designer and his first show on this platform should equip me for a little review. Let’s see how it goes.
Up until I received the show schedule, I did not know of a Jason Porshe. Thank heavens for Google. A search revealed a talented powerhouse specialising in customised suiting, and one who launched a ready-to-wear collection for women in 2017. And guess what, it was killer. I also noticed how active Porshe was on social media prior to showing, during and afterwards. This guy clearly knows the value of marketing and understands that work doesn’t end on the runway. He gets an extra three points for having some smarts.
Above all, the buzz after the runway show proved that dynamite does come in a proverbial small package. A collection of only 10 or so looks packed some seri-yas punch. I was happy!
Jason Porshe proved that volume doesn’t equate to quality. This man knows who his client is, has an exceptional eye for fit and form, understands the importance of solid tailoring and isn’t afraid to take risks without seeming desperate. I want every young menswear designer to emulate his business model. It works.
Welcome to Cape Town, Jason. Congratulations on a solid show. Sorry that I missed it but maybe you’d like to catch me on Spice TV Africa. Shot!
Oh look, I can actually smile on camera. Clearly my botox kicked in. Happy days.
How are you enjoying Friday night’s fashion shows so far?
love & light
