Style Over 50: boyfriend jeans

July 27, 2020

I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter about mom jeans these passed few days. While I’ll reserve severe judgement – yes, I’m being nicer these days – I will say that I’m not a fan. Unless you’re an 18 year old wearing a cropped top, mom jeans are just too tricky to style.

If you’re looking for something with more room around the tummy area, the boyfriend jeans gets my vote over and over again. They’re considerably less constricting but still ooze buckets loads of sex appeal.

I had the pleasure of styling Wenke for her model look book late last year. I paired oversized boyfriend denims (she’s a 10 and these are size 12) with an off-the-shoulder cashmere knit and nude heels. For an edgier feel, I accessorised with an aged chunky brown leather belt, while a broad leather Hermes bracelet and dangly diamond earrings added luxe appeal. The overall look spelled luxurious comfort with a serious FU attitude.

Top style tip: This look will not date so invest in the best quality knit you can find. Change your hair and shoes seasonally to keep it fresh.

Are you willing to ditch your mom for your boyfriend? Pop a comment below and let me know how you style your favourite denims. Or tell me what you think of Wenke’s look.

Stay safe, style lovers. Love & light,

  1. Hello gorgeous Clouds. LOVE boyfriend jeans. Where were the ones from that you used?

    1. Hello Honey, Thank you for the comment. Oooh, I know you’ll rock them. The shoot was done in December last year; the jeans are RE from Woolies. While they may not have that particular style, it’s a staple which they’ll always carry.
Lotsa love. (And please tag me on your pics if you post anything.)
